NBC10, Free Wacoms

NBC 10 came by the office today to cover NG and the Behemoth for a video game related piece leading up to the VGExpo in Philadelphia this weekend. If you're in the Philadelphia area, check out the NBC 10 news tomorrow (Wednesday) at 4pm! It will probably repeat at 11pm.

Anyone here planning to hit the expo? I plan to head down either Friday or Saturday.

Also, has anyone had any problems viewing submissions this week? I had some complaints from people who said they couldn't watch the submissions, but it could be a fluke - just wanna check.

With the holidays fast approaching, it's once again time to give the gift of Wacoms! I'm placing a huge order and need to know who the most deserving contributors are. Previous recipients went on to make stuff like this:
> Harry The Harlequin Fetus by Catoblepas

> Crows' Life Episode 3 by Toonimated

> Orange Rhymes by AlmightyHans

> Into The Wild by UnderARock

Submitting your information will not guarantee you a tablet, and PLEASE don't apply unless you have a proven track record on Newgrounds; examples include high scoring submissions, submissions that have won awards, or artwork from art contests. Also don't apply unless you really want a tablet and will put it to good use.

To apply, PM me with the following info in this specific order:

1. The subject "WACOM TABLET"
2. Your full name and mailing address.
3. A brief or long story about why you want a tablet and what you hope to accomplish with it.
4. Direct links to your best Flash or art forum contributions.

This year we are giving out the Bamboo Fun Medium. The BFM is roughly 6x8 and suitable for the majority of Flash and Photoshop users. We have previously given out the Intuos 3, but feedback we've received says the BFM addresses the needs of artists who aren't using the tablet for simulated painting. This change in price allows us to give away a lot more tablets in the future, as we will be giving them out regularly as prizes in art contests.

It's also time for our annual Holiday Flash contest! Check out the Christmas 2008 page for contest rules and prizes. Submissions can have a general holiday or winter theme, or be specifically about Christmas. Get CREATIVE and make something that will last throughout the ages, because this page will exist FOREVER.

Here's another overlooked Halloween 2008 submission, from rising star TheBoogley. > "trick or treat?" by TheBoogley

You may also know his work from this amazing collab he recently organized:
> One Big Morphing Orgasm by TheBoogley

Lemme know about the VGExpo this weekend, maybe a bunch of us could end up hanging out!

Treasure Hunt 2008 RESULTS 4/4

Last month we had a Treasure Hunt contest that resulted in thousands of recommendations for overlooked submissions. I decided to break the results into four parts, the previous three being:

1. Overlooked Movies
2. Overlooked Games
3. Overlooked Series

Today's post is an attempt to point out some other noteables from the Treasure Hunt.

I'll start off with the list of great submissions that never got enough time or love on the front page:
> These Are The Boring Bits by joedavis

> Big Bag. by BillSkelton

> Ghost Out Part 3 by RedMongoose

> earthsick by notorious

> A Christmas Special, or by Sarkazm

> The Chicken Rodeo by High-Hopes

> Static & Joy by Krash1

> Multfilm (Opa Novy God!) by Scarydoll

Moving along, I'm gonna highlight less-known movies by well-known artists.

Marciano was a fav in 2002 with the Kill Toons series. He really came into his own with Galapagos in 2003, but I wasn't even aware of his later submissions, such as Rapaz:
> Rapaz by marciano

Similarly, AlantheBOX has been a highly celebrated artist, with a long-awaited DVD in the works, but perhaps you haven't seen some of his lesser-known stuff:
> the safety dance by CDplaya

> garbage day by AlantheBOX

Backseatkiss has always been a favorite of mine that never gets the attention he deserves. You can start with this overlooked submission:
> Trevor Weinstein by backseatkiss

Psycosis91 has done some great work with sprites, but this video never hit the radar:
> Two Slices Of Pie by Psycosis91

Scarydoll became an early king of twisted films on NG, with Lost Dias Sin Dias. That same year, he released this overlooked film:
> King of the Flies by Scarydoll

Disk Extermination was front paged, but not the glorious version 2:
> Disk extermination ver.2 by NOBU777

Kol-Belov is another long-celebrated artist whos name has come up repeatedly over the years. You may have seen PUSTOTA, but have you seen this?
> The Worms Hazard by Kol-Belov

Noiserover was featured in the first Treasure Hunt post with Comfort and was an early inspiration for the Vampires collection with The Undead. Here is one more submission of his that you should see:
> The Takeover by noiserover

Jim Ether is another artist who made a splash in the early days of NG with his submission, "Pimpin' Aint Easy." He later became unhappy with it and replaced it with a video about hot dogs. Since you can't watch Pimpin', you can watch this:
> smile and a ribbon by jim-ether

So that wraps it up for the 2008 Treasure Hunt. I announced there wouldn't be any prizes for this fourth post, so if you missed that, I'm sorry... No prizes. Everyone wins the prize of getting to watch lots of cool movies.

I'm planning to attempt a quarterly treasure hunt, focusing on three months at a time rather than the entire history of NG. On that note, it's about time to get started on the 2008 Flash Portal History!

I'm also gonna try to make more posts about specific artists. I get nervous that doing this will only create a new way to disenfranchise those who get overlooked, but I think it will be worth doing.

What are your favorites from the list above? Also, share your thoughts on artists you would like to see spotlighted.

Best of October 2008

I decided to give out prizes for TWO overlooked gems from the Halloween competition. There were so many great submissions this year that twenty winners wasn't enough. I recommend that everyone check out the collection.
> Three's Horrible by rubberonion

> Fucking Kids! by Catoblepas

DerajN will be receiving a 2009 NG calendar for his recommendation of Three's Horrible, while Whirlguy will get a calendar after vouching for Fucking Kids! Each of the authors of each of these gems will receive $250, rather than $100 like I stated previously.

There are more prizes to go around! Here are the winners for Best of October:

TOP FIVE MOVIES:

1. Fallen Angel Ep. 1 (Pt1)
2. Fallen Angel Ep. 1 (Pt3)
3. Fallen Angel Ep. 1 (Pt2) > Fallen Angel Ep. 1 (Pt1) by RobsH66

4. Legend of Miyamoto > Legend of Miyamoto by Awkward-Squid

5. Jerry and The Closet > Jerry and The Closet by HotDiggedyDemon

It's pretty impressive that Fallen Angel took the top three spots, considering multiple episodes can often be a liability towards a single one winning. I decided that Fallen Angel has earned $750 in prize money, but I'll count it as a single winner and add two additional prize slots, with an additional $250 each:

6. DE_dust2 > DE_dust2 by WX

7. Cup o Democracy > Cup o Democracy by captcapitalism

TOP FIVE GAMES:

1. Mastermind: WC > Mastermind: WC by The-Swain

2. Karoshi:Suicide Salaryman > Karoshi:Suicide Salaryman by karoshi

3. Meat Boy > Meat Boy by Bluebaby

4. Rage3! > Rage3! by Cosmoseth

5. Crunchdown > Crunchdown by I-smel

RUNNER-UP MOVIES:

8. Super Mario bros Z ep.7
9. John McCain
10. Rockoons 2
11. One Big Morphing Orgasm
12. Fucking Kids!
13. Angry Dog - Lizard Dome
14. Jigsaw
15. ZSL Extravaganzafestathon
16. Ferrets
17. The Dangers of Halloween
18. Nocturnus
19. Megaman - Rockin in paper
